Day Sixteen: 16 Sept 2010

We went on a field trip today to a place called Neot Kedumim.  It's a nature reserve, and we learned a lot of cool things about some of the plants of the Bible.  I thought it sounded really boring (it does when I'm writing it here lol) but it was actually really cool.  They showed us an actual cistern that people drew water from, different kinds of trees such as the fig, the sycamore (which here produces fruit--it's actually pretty good, except for the little bugs inside!), date palm, and Myrtle.  We made some hysop spice from the actual plant and cooked pita bread over a fire. They showed us a replica of a tower that farmers would've erected in the fields they worked in (which, surprisingly, was actually pretty cool (temperature)).  They showed us a flock of sheep and then they had groups herd the sheep to different places (yes, I actually herded sheep!)  There was this water wheel about twice my height too, and we each got to go inside and run in it (I felt like a hamster lol--it was cool though, it messed with my equilibrium).  We also saw a guy that copies the Torah for a living, it's actually pretty complicated (it would drive me nuts though).  It was a neat trip.

Other than that the day was pretty boring. We got back, had dinner, and went to class from 7 to 9 (Jewish history--at 7pm after a tiring field trip, this is a BAD idea).  We're only studying from about the time of Jesus to the present, which means that the entire Jewish story is sad/pitiable so...let' sjust say it's not too interesting. Oh well.

Till tomorrow!
