Day Fifteen: 15 Sept 2010
Ok so I'm really excited about Egypt now. I was before, but now I'm not even worried about the heat because this very well could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (and I realize that even better now). Most of today wasn't very noteworthy--class from 8 till 11 (though I do have to admit Dr. Chadwick's ancient near eastern studies class is interesting, especially because today's topic was Egypt), lunch, a quick trip to East Jerusalem to pull out some money for next week, Arabic class, and dinner. But, we had a forum speaker tonight that got me super pumped for Egypt; his name is Dr. Muhlestein. He teaches Old/New Testament here at the JC, but his Ph. D. is in Egyptology and he does excavations east of the Nile on the Snefru pyramids. He basically talked about pyramids, their history, and their functions for an hour; not only that, but what he was talking about is a bit different than anybody has ever taught me about Egypt! (he asked us not to put the details online or anything because he hasn't published his findings yet) Anyway, I'm super excited to go next week. It's anti-climactic writing about it and it sounds kinda dull, but trust me--it was neat. Now I'm going to go work on homework...bleh...goodnight!
