Day Ten: 10 Sept 2010
Today was pretty uneventful until the evening. We had classes till 10 (we learned about archaeological periods of time...wahoo...), but we couldn't go out because Fridays are the Muslim equivalent of Sabbath--so, I worked on homework all day until last night. Last night I watched First Knight with Brant, Megan, Megan, and Amy. I stayed up way late haha, but the most exciting thing was our visit to the Western Wall. Our professor explained that the Wall is a portion of the wall that was built around Mount Moriah (the Temple Mount) in the Savior's Day--it wasn't part of the temple itself, but it's as close to the original Temple of Herod as the Jews are going to get (and we were also told that it's basically the 'center of their universe' so to speak). Being Saturday and being this particular time of the year (Rosh HaShanna--Jewish new year), it was neat to go see the Jews celebrating both the Sabbath and the New Year. There was all sorts of dancing, clapping, and praying (though not exactly in the same way that we pray...) They really get into it-holy cow I didn't realize it was so lively there. Anyway, I went up to the wall and said a prayer with my hand on it, so now I can say I've prayed at the Western Wall :) And thankfully we didn't have to walk back because the walk there in church clothes was irritating lol. Tune in next time!
